Good question, why should you be a caregiver? Should you do it because there are lots of job opportunities, and you can always get a job somewhere? Should you do it because you’re thinking of going to nursing school, and getting your CNA is a prerequisite? Should you do it because your friend is a caregiver, and they seem to like it? Should you do it because working as a caregiver seems more meaningful than working in fast food or retail? Should you do it because you have bills to pay and you need a job?
Well, those are certainly all reasons you could become a caregiver. However, at Advanced Health Care, we’re looking for some different reasons. Lots of people need jobs, and everyone has bills to pay, but not everyone has the personal qualities we’re looking for in our employees.
The most important qualities we look for when hiring caregivers are compassion and integrity. We want to hire caregivers that love helping others; caregivers that care deeply about other people and will do anything in their power to make their lives better. We want to work with people who don’t need to be taught the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, but they know the difference – and they live their lives that way, every day.
So, do you truly and genuinely love helping others? Do you want to make a difference in someone’s life, even if there isn’t always thankful acknowledgement? Do you feel elated and overjoyed when you know your contributions helped somebody?
Are you really honest and trustworthy? When you make a commitment, do you keep it? Even if it’s difficult? Do you always do what is right – even when it’s easier not to do anything?
If you can answer yes to all of the above questions, then caregiving may be the right job for you. The joy and personal fulfillment you receive at the end of the day, when you know you did indeed make a difference is indescribable. It truly is a calling, and if you honestly cannot see yourself working intimately in the lives of others, caring for the pleasant and not so pleasant needs, this may not be the career for you. But if after you’ve read this blog, you feel excited and motivated to enter into this humble and heartwarming profession, we welcome you to talk to us at Advanced Health Care. Becoming a caregiver could be your perfect occupation!
